Welcome to the Royal Aeronautical Society
Flight Simulation Group
The Flight Simulation Group (FSG) is the specialist group of the Society which deals with the design, manufacture, installation and operation of simulation equipment and synthetic environments, and the economic and human factors which bear on the use of simulators for research and development and for civil and military flight crew training. The Group maintains a significant international footprint and keeps abreast of flight simulation requirements in both civil and military areas worldwide, including the requirements of national and multinational civil regulatory authorities.
The FSG has an executive Committee, with an international membership that aims to span all of these disciplines and to provide a focus on all aspects of flight simulation. The Committee's activities are governed by Terms of Reference and a Constitution, and its overall governance is the responsibility of the Learned Society Board of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
The FSG Committee arranges two international conferences on flight simulation each year that usually take place in the Spring and Autumn at the Headquarters of the Royal Aeronautical Society in London. It is also responsible for the annual Edwin A Link Lecture and the annual Captain Ray Jones Memorial Lecture. The FSG holds an Annual General Meeting, usually at 17:30 on the first day of the annual Spring Flight Simulation Conference in June. The Annual General Meeting considers and approves the Chairman's AnnualReport and a Strategic Plan. Committee members are also elected.
The FSG Committee has a very extensive remit and its diverse activities are reflected in the Discussion Forum. It maintains a list of challenges facing the flight simulation community and seeks actively by all appropriate means to facilitate their progression. It also serves the flight simulation industry and its workforce through a wide programme of activities that seek to educate, inform, inspire and promote flight simulation. These include leading an International Working Group on standards for flight simulation training devices and jointly sponsoring with Cranfield University a short course to provide an introduction to flight simulation.
Chairman (2007-2009): Peter Tharp
